What Makes a Brand Memorable?
Memorability is a design decision. Repetition, restraint and a single owned idea do most of the work.
One owned idea
Memorable brands commit to a single device — a shape, a colour, a phrase, a behaviour — and repeat it long past the point where they are bored of it.
Restraint is a strategy
Every additional font, colour and layout variation dilutes recognition. Fewer elements, used more confidently, register faster.
Consistency across surfaces
Recognition is built by seeing the same system in different contexts: site, social, vehicle, invoice, email signature.
Say something true
The most memorable positioning is usually the most specific. Generic promises are forgettable because they are interchangeable.
